Foreign Language Graduation Requirement
South Carolina requires all students to complete one foreign language unit for graduation. A CATE (Career and Technology Education) course may be substituted and fulfill this requirement. Daniel High School does offer some on campus CATE courses to fulfill the foreign language requirement if you are not planning to transition directly into a four-year college after graduation. You may also take courses at the Pickens County Career & Technology Center to meet this requirement as well.
Daniel High School offers German and Spanish as on campus foreign language options.
Students planning to enter a four-year, state-supported colleges in SC are required to complete at least two units of the same world language. Students should refer to the entrance requirements regarding world languages for the college of their choice to verify the number of courses they will need for admission. Enrollment in level one world language courses is open to all interested students. A strong foundation in English 1 is highly recommended for study of a world language. Students studying beyond level one should carefully follow the recommended prerequisites for continued study of a world language.
