This course serves to increase students’ financial literacy. The focus is on economic principles, with an emphasis on the efficient allocation of resources through the market forces of demand and supply. Students examine the principles of economics involving the production, consumption, and distribution of wealth in a market economy that is influenced by governmental policies. Topics of study include comparative economic systems, business organizations, financial institutions, taxation, business cycles, labor unions, unemployment, inflation and international trade. This course is required for graduation. AP Macroeconomics or AP Microeconomics or a dual credit equivalent may be used to satisfy the graduation requirement.
