Algebra 1
ALGEBRA 1 (411420CW)
Semester Course (1 unit)
Middle School Prerequisite: See School District of Pickens County’s Readiness Indicators for Enrollment
NCAA Core GPA Approved
The critical areas of study deepen and extend understanding of linear and exponential relationships by contrasting them with each other by applying linear models to data that exhibit a linear trend, and students engage in methods for analyzing, solving and using quadratic functions. The critical units of study are: Relationships between Quantities and Reasoning with Equations, Linear and Exponential Relationships, Descriptive Statistics, Expressions and Equations, and Quadratic Functions and Modeling. Graphing calculators will be used extensively and students should have their own graphing calculator. If purchasing a calculator, the TI-84 contains the features needed for all courses except AP Calculus or AP Statistics. This is also the calculator used for demonstration purposes in classes. Students will not be allowed to use a TI-89, TI-92, TI-Nspire CAS or other comparable calculators that utilize symbolic manipulation. Only AP courses use the Nspire-CAS calculator.
Calculator rentals are available through the math department. See a math teacher for questions.
NOTE: Students enrolled in this course are required to take the Algebra 1 End of Course Exam which will count 20% of the final grade.
